Episode 5553 - Friday 1 August 2003 at 7:30pm As the street continues to turn against Tracy the cracks are starting to show. First Bev tells her she’ll have to be out of the pub by the time Shelley returns next week, then she’s sacked by Sally for skiving from the bookies, and when Deirdre turns away it’s too much for Tracy as she breaks down for the first time. Tommy’s in the dog-house after punching Tyrone, Katy’s refusing to speak to him and when Kevin threatens them both with the sack Tommy and Tyrone are forced to shake hands. But how long will Tyrone be prepared to keep up the pretence for Katy? Elsewhere it looks like Les’ jailbird mate Arnie has duped Emma and Curly. When he sends a friend round to pose as a surveyor, Curly is delighted things are moving so quickly, and when Emma reveals she’s seen the perfect house in Newcastle the Watts’ believe they’ll be on the move soon. Meanwhile Mike’s desperate for staff and reluctantly agrees to Steve’s pleas to give Karen her job back. And Eileen despairs as the bills continue to come in.

| Episode 5554 - Sunday 3 August 2003 at 7:30pm Writer: Catherine Hayes Director:Alan Wareing Tracy is desperate to stay at the Rovers - with nowhere else to go she begs Bev to let her stay but Bev is tired of Tracy’s behaviour and makes it clear that she wants her out ASAP. With the weight of the world on her shoulders Tracy turns to her godmother Emily who is full of pearls of wisdom. But even Emily is lost for words when Tracy reveals the true extent of her problems - she's pregnant. Tyrone is still running scared of Tommy as he issues him with yet another warning but when Tommy follows it up with an invitation for tea Tyrone is too shocked to refuse. Katy is horrified at this latest turn of events and the pair are forced to sit through a very uncomfortable evening with her family. Curly and Emma are pleased at how quickly things are progressing with the house sale and are only too happy to oblige when Arnie asks if he can come around and measure up. However, they are in for a shock when Mick spots Arnie leaving the house and recognises him. It seems he may not be who he claims to be... Meanwhile, Bev calls on a devastated Roy and tries to make him realise that he was not to blame for what happened between him and Tracy - but Roy is determined to shoulder the full responsibility for his actions and no one can talk him round. Episode 5555 - Monday 4 August 2003 at 7:30pm Tracy and Emily discuss the baby and it is clear that Tracy is still in turmoil about the pregnancy. Emily believes Roy has a right to know about the baby but Tracy makes it clear that she has no plans to tell him he is the father. Meanwhile, Roy is dreading Hayley's return. She arrives back in Weatherfield so excited about seeing him that she doesn't notice the strange looks and barbed comments from Norris in the Kabin. Back at the cafe flat Roy is distracted and feels doubly guilty when she presents him with a gift eventually he can hold back no longer and tells her has a terrible confession to make… Steve is proud of Karen for bravely returning to work at Underworld but despite her bold front nothing can disguise the hurt she feels when the girls freeze her out - will she ever be able to be one of the gang again?
Emma and Curly play Arnie at his own game and rumble his scam discovering the identity of who is behind the elaborate ruse. Episode 5556 - Wednesday 6 August 2003 at 7:30pm Hayley is in a state of complete shock following Roy's confession and even more mortified to find out that his liaison with Tracy is the talk of the Street. But when Roy insists that he can't remember a thing Hayley starts to wonder if Tracy made the whole thing up and vows to confront the little madam. But with Tracy determined to leave Weatherfield is Hayley too late to discover what really went on? Katy is clearly not enthusiastic about Martin's plan to shout their news from the rooftops. She saw how her dad reacted when he thought she was seeing Tyrone but Martin is determined to tell Tommy and Angela - will Katy be able to stop him? It's fun and games at the factory as Karen languishes in Coventry and ringleader Janice makes it clear that she is not welcome to join them in the pub. Steve can't believe that Karen is taking it lying down and insists she has it out with them - how will they react? Meanwhile, Harry has an interesting day at Underworld when Mike gets sick of waiting for a potential buyer and leaves for the pub. When the buyer arrives late and assumes Harry is Mike's deputy the cleaner has no chance to put the pompous businessman right before events take a dramatic turn. Peter and Shelley return home from honeymoon to find Sunita engaged to Ciaran, who is on the wrong side of the bar, and Tracy living at the Rovers. It seems Bev has some explaining to do… Episode 5557 - Friday 8 August 2003 at 7:30pm Hayley is still angry about not being able to confront Tracy and Roy's behaviour is making her wonder if he is in fact holding something back from her. She's starting to question his claim that he can remember nothing about the encounter and faced with Hayley's hurt Roy makes a heartbreaking decision about their future. Peter is just back from honeymoon and the first thing on his mind is seeing his son. And so the deception begins again. After a day with Simon, Peter goes to view the Watts’ house with Shelley. How long can Peter keep up his double life? A newly confident Karen stuns Steve when she announces that she still wants to divorce him. Steve can't believe what he is hearing when she tells him the reasons behind her bizarre decision. Has Karen finally lost the plot? Martin and Katy struggle to stay away from each other at the Harris's
BBQ and in a bid to put people off the scent, Martin strikes up a
conversation with the new factory girl Sonia much to Katy's fury.

| Episode 5558 - Sunday 10 August 2003 at 7:30pm Writer: Joe Turner Director: Kay Patrick Curly and Emma are thrilled when the offer on their dream house in Newcastle is accepted and when they decide to drop the price of their own house for a quick sale it seems they’ll soon be on the move. But Les has got other ideas, especially when he gets some surprise news from his prison bosses. Back on the street Hayley decides to come out fighting. She tells Roy she thinks their marriage is worth saving and points out that they need to show the world they’re still together. At the Rovers a nervous Roy and Hayley put on a brave face but it’s soon clear everyone is behind them and when Bev apologises for her part in the bet it reiterates Hayley’s belief that Tracy’s night with Roy was all a joke at their expense. Katy has it out with Martin. Fed up of hearing about her parents’ matchmaking skills with Martin and Sonia, Katy soon storms round to his flat expecting to find them together. Martin’s amused when she goes on the attack but assures Katy she’s the only girl for him. Will they now decide it’s time to come clean about their affair? Elsewhere, Karen’s still trying to convince Steve they should go through with the divorce and when she resorts to her powers of seduction it looks like she’ll be getting her own way. Episode 5559 - Monday 11 August 2003 at 7:30pm Les is pleased to be out of a prison but his day quickly deteriorates. After arriving home to an empty house he’s refused his job back at Streetcars, then electronically tagged and placed under curfew. Meanwhile, Curly and Emma are shocked to find Les back home and when they go for a drink in the Rovers with Mick and Janice, Mick has a few strong words for Les – making it clear he wants him back inside. Elsewhere, Todd tries to convince Sarah to move in with him as they enjoy a picnic lunch at the flat. Sarah’s starting to waver and when Bethany falls and bumps her head Todd’s comforting demeanour helps Sarah make up her mind. But how will Gail react to the news that her daughter and grand-daughter are moving out? Meanwhile, Steve and Karen begin their phoney divorce but they’re soon rowing for real over who will admit fault in the proceedings. And Sally focuses her attentions on helping Rosie rehearse, at the expense of the rest of her family. Episode 5560 - Wednesday 13 August 2003 at 7:30pm When Gail notices the bruising on Bethany’s head she goes ballistic. Sarah tries to explain that Bethany was fine and even went to sleep after her fall. A horrified Gail takes this in and accuses Sarah of not being fit to look after her own daughter. Sick of Gail’s attitude towards her Sarah informs Gail that she plans to move in with Todd. On hearing the news Martin also tries unsuccessfully to dissuade Sarah. Has Gail’s reaction driven her daughter from the family home? Meanwhile, Les continues to make a nuisance of himself. When Curly and Emma show a prospective house buyer around No 7 he positions himself outside on the street, can of lager in hand and begins to wax lyrical about how the neighbours have welcomed him back after his recent stint in prison. The situation is resolved when Mick warns him he could have him arrested for causing an obstruction and drinking in the street. Les is thwarted for now. An exasperated Curly wishes there was something he could do to put a end to his ongoing problems with his neighbour from hell. Elsewhere, Sally and Kevin clash over their daughters. Kevin is upset that Sally seems to be neglecting Sophie whilst pushing Rosie to fulfil her dramatic ambition. Hayley is dismayed when Roy fails to notice her change of image. And has Norris given a home to a stray? Episode 5561 - Friday 15 August 2003 at 7:30pm With Gail out at work, a determined Sarah collects the rest of her belongings from No 8. Later when Gail returns she finds a distraught David who explains what Sarah has done. Gail immediately stomps round to Todd’s flat to bring her wayward daughter home. A furious Gail lays down the law to Sarah but this only strengthens the teenager’s resolve. After a heated row Sarah throws Gail out. David meanwhile is devastated that his family has been torn apart. Elsewhere, Curly hatches a plan to deal with Les once and for all. He meets up with his old council colleague Councillor Naysmith in the Rovers. The pair decide that as Les is subletting to Kirk he is in breach of the council’s tenancy rules. If the authorities were made aware of this Les would face eviction from No 5. Later on a determined Curly tries to enlist Janice’s help in his quest to oust Les. Curly needs her to write to the council explaining she no longer lives with Les. Janice faces a dilemma – what will she do? Meanwhile, the Webster’s are still not seeing eye to eye over daughter Rosie. Kevin is frustrated at the amount of time Sally is spending on Rosie’s “budding” career. Also Eileen’s money worries continue. Is she in over her head? |
| Episode 5562 - Sunday 17 August 2003 at 7:30pm Director: Eugene Ferguson In yet another attempt to wind up the Watts', Les lights a bonfire in his backyard. When smoke billows into their home, Curly and Emma reach the end of their tether. Curly warns Les that he has pushed them too far this time and informs a shocked Les that he could pull a few strings at the council at get Les evicted from No 5. Later in the Rovers, a drunk Les has a go at Mick and only Ciaran jumping in and throwing Les out stops another fight between the two of them. With Les seemingly hell bent on revenge, has he gone too far this time? Elsewhere, Steve informs a distraught Eileen that the loan sharks have contacted him because he is a guarantor on her loans. She admits she is struggling to keep up with the repayments, and Steve suggests she ask Tony for a handout. A reluctant Eileen realises she has no one else to turn to. Will Tony turn over a new leaf and help Eileen in her hour of need? After being told off by Sally, Sophie starts to feel left out. Sally and Kevin are giving all their attention to Rosie and her singing career, and when they have to attend an audition, Tommy volunteers Katy for a spot of baby-sitting. He has agreed with Kevin that Katy will look after Sophie Webster for the day but unbeknown to Tommy, Katy has agreed to meet up with Martin. Katy is furious when she finds out and relies on Sarah’s good nature in order to keep her date with Martin. Katy quickly takes Sophie around to Sarah and Todd’s flat. They agree to cover for her but are left in the dark as to who Katy must dash off to see. How long can she and Martin play this dangerous game? And Gail tries to persuade Sarah to return home for Bethany’s sake. Episode 5563 - Monday 18 August 2003 at 7:30pm Whilst in the Rovers, Mick once again goads a drunken Les and this time he pushes him too far. Les decides it’s time he sorted Mick out once and for all. Les later arrives uninvited at Curly’s house and rants about how he is going to get his own form of revenge, Curly is at pains to placate Les but his words have no effect as a determined Les storms off. Crow bar in hand, Les heads off towards Mick and Janice’s flat. He begins to prize the locked door open. Hell bent on revenge just how far will Les go in order to get his own form of justice? Meanwhile, Kevin and Sally are furious when they hear that Katy dumped their daughter with Todd and Sarah so she could keep a secret date with Martin. Kevin tells Martin what happened and is surprised when Martin defends Katy’s actions. Later when Kevin spots Martin talking to Katy he begins to wonder about the true nature of their friendship. He voices his concerns to Sally who pours scorn on the idea that Martin could be having a relationship with Katy. Kevin is left feeling frustrated. Is Martin hiding something from him? Elsewhere, Tracy returns from London but meets with a frosty reception. Will Ken and Deirdre forgive their wayward daughter and let her stay with them? Episode 5564 - Wednesday 20 August 2003 at 7:30pm Mick is disturbed by the noise of someone entering his flat, he comes face to face with Les wielding a crowbar. Les tells him it’s payback time, he’s going to give Mick the beating of his life – whatever the consequences maybe. However, as Mick tries to reason with a crazed Les, Curly and Janice arrive at the scene. As Les takes a swing at Mick, Curly attempts to stop him only to take a blow to the face himself. Les then orders Curly and Janice to leave, so that he can have his five minutes alone with Mick but the pair refuse to budge. As Curly begins to talk Les down Mick spots an opportunity and lunges at Les, Mick begins to lay into Les as he did previously. Curly drags Mick off, Janice has now seen the true side to Mick and the truth about the cover up comes pouring out. Curly persuades Mick not to report Les to the police and the four reach an uneasy truce. Les feels he has no fight left in him and agrees with Curly that this is the end of their feud. Meanwhile, Kevin challenges Martin over his relationship with Katy. He takes Martin over to the garage and put his accusations to him. A shocked Martin confirms Kevin’s worst fears, the pair have a heated exchange and Kevin accuses Martin of being some kind of pervert. He is dating a sixteen-year-old girl. A disgusted Kevin leaves Martin wondering what he is going to do now that he knows his secret. Elsewhere, a troubled Ken and Deirdre listen to Tracy’s apology about her recent behaviour and reluctantly agree to let her move back in with them. Later, Ken informs a worried Roy that Tracy is back in town. Emily is pleased to hear that Tracy has not had an abortion but her pleasure quickly turns to dismay when Tracy informs her she still plans to have a termination. Can a disappointed Emily change her mind? Episode 5565 - Friday 22 August 2003 at 7:30pm Hayley has heard about Tracy’s return and is pleased because she feels she can now confront her about exactly what happened with Roy. A determined Hayley drags a reluctant Roy round to the Barlow’s house to have it out with Tracy. In a out of character moment Hayley launches into a rant about how Tracy’s attempt to ruin her marriage hasn’t worked and it will be Tracy who eventually will end up alone and miserable. Stunned by Hayley’s verbal attack, Tracy retaliates and informs a shocked Hayley and Roy that she has got proof that Roy did indeed sleep with her. Tracy’s revelations rock Roy and Hayley. What will Hayley do now? Elsewhere, Sarah has got her GCSE results - they are average . To cheer her up Todd promises to make Sarah a slap-up dinner by way of a celebration. With Sarah out of the flat Todd begins to prepare a meal, in doing so he momentarily takes his eye off Bethany. Todd is shocked when he hears a loud bang – he turns around to find an unconscious Bethany lying on the floor. Will she be ok? The Watts’ and Battersby’s deal with recent events. Curly confides in Emily he is shame faced and close to tears but holds nothing back. Emily is shocked that the Norman she's known for so many years has done something so immoral. Emma arrives home to a furious tirade from Janice. Weary Curly has to fill Emma in on the details. Janice tells Mick she loves him but is struggling to come to terms with what he did to Les. Meanwhile, Katy and Martin confront Kevin. He tells them he has
not decided whether he is going to go public about their relationship. |
| Episode 5566 - Sunday 24 August 2003 at 7:30pm Writer: John Fay Director: Tim O'Mara As Roy and Hayley leave the Barlows, still reeling from the shocking news that Tracy is pregnant, they’re met by a frantic Todd who urges them to help him with Bethany who is still lying unconscious from the electric shock. When the ambulance arrives Bethany is rushed off to hospital leaving Roy and Hayley to face up to Tracy’s news. As Roy tells Hayley that if the baby is his he’ll stand by it, a devastated Hayley is left to confront her worst nightmare. The question is, will she be able to stand by her man? Elsewhere, Gail arrives at the hospital where Bethany has come around, and is furious to hear that the accident was something to do with the wiring in the flat. A row breaks out and Gail insists that Sarah and Bethany come home with her. But when Sarah refuses Gail decides it’s time to take matters into her own hands, how far will she go to ensure her daughter and granddaughter are forced to return home? And Katy’s having a hard time over her relationship with Martin. First Kevin has a go at her urging her to do everyone a favour and break it off. Then when she arrives at the hospital to speak to Martin she’s unhappy to find him comforting Gail. Episode 5567 - Bank Holiday Monday 25 August 2003 at 7:30pm A devastated Hayley has spent the night at Tommy and Angela’s. Deciding she needs to get away from Weatherfield she plans a break to Amsterdam. But unbeknown to Hayley, Roy has sunk to new depths of depression after hearing that Tracy is planning an abortion. Feeling he has nothing more to live for, after losing both Hayley and the baby, he closes the café and cleans it meticulously before pinning a letter to the flat door marked “Warning do not enter”. He then makes his way upstairs and methodically counts out a line of pills. Elsewhere, Bethany is let out of hospital but not before Sarah has been told a social worker will be coming around to the flat to visit them. Meanwhile, Gail invites Sarah and Beth to stay with her until the dodgy wiring is sorted out but when Sarah turns her down will Gail be prepared to take further action to get her own way? And Peter’s enjoying spending time with his son Simon while Lucy has a few hours away. But how long can he keep up the deception with both women? Episode 5568 - Bank Holiday Monday 25 August 2003 at 8:45pm As Roy takes his final pill Hayley says her goodbyes to Angela and leaves for the airport. She calls Roy who doesn’t answer the phone but as she leaves a message Roy starts to crack and he calls her on the pay phone at the bus stop. There’s something about Roy’s tone that worries her but as the bus arrives and the driver grows impatient Hayley says goodbye. However, as the bus moves away Hayley can’t shake the feeling that something isn’t right and she gets off the bus and rushes back to the flat. Finding the café in darkness, Hayley reads Roy’s note and races upstairs. Will she be in time to save him? Meanwhile, Tracy’s feeling sorry for herself and when Emily goes to visit her to try and persuade her to have the baby Tracy reveals she wouldn’t wish her upbringing on any child. Wallowing in self-pity she claims she wishes Deirdre had had an abortion because it would have saved her a lot of misery. But when Emily lectures Tracy on taking responsibility for her own actions will it change Tracy’s mind or make her even more determined to have the abortion? Episode 5569 - Wednesday 27 August 2003 at 7:30pm Tracy’s surprised when the Croppers arrive on her doorstep showing a united front. Although Hayley has told Roy a reconciliation isn’t on the cards she’ll be there to provide moral support. Roy pleads with Tracy not to have the abortion, claiming it’s his only chance of becoming a father, but Tracy’s not interested. Later, however, she speaks to Emily and when Emily reveals how much the Croppers want a child and the lengths to which they went to try and ‘buy’ Wayne it’s clear a plan is forming in her mind. How will the Croppers react to Tracy’s shocking proposition? Elsewhere, Todd gives the social worker a hard time when she visits Sarah. But despite his hostility she is happy with what she sees and goes to report back to Gail. As she tells Gail that everything seems fine at the flat, Audrey arrives and is shocked to see that it’s clearly not what Gail wants to hear, leaving Gail forced into confessing that she was the one who called in social services. Will Audrey keep her secret or reveal to Sarah just how low her mother’s prepared to go? Mick is unhappy that Janice and Les seem to be on friendly terms again and urges Janice to hurry up with the divorce. But getting nowhere quickly, he decides to pay Les a visit and put some pressure on at his end. And Eileen’s feeling the pressure as her debts build up and she realises she doesn’t have enough cash to pay the loan company. Episode 5570 - Friday 29 August 2003 at 7:30pm Roy and Hayley are horrified at Tracy’s proposition but torn as to what to do, not wanting to lose Roy’s baby. They make a last ditch attempt to change Tracy’s mind, but when she tells them that unless they come up with a £5,000 deposit (of the £20,000) by 3 o’clock then she’ll abort the baby, they realise what they’ll have to do. They scrape together all the cash they can from their business account and savings, even emptying the till, but they’re still a few hundred pounds short. Will the Croppers be able to race to the clinic in time and even if they do will Tracy accept the shortfall in the money? When another potential buyer for the Watts’ house falls through Curly and Emma decide they can’t sit tight any longer. They find a flat to rent in Newcastle and agree to start their new live in the North East leaving their house in the hands of an agent. And when Curly books the removal van for Monday it looks like they’ll be on their way sooner rather than later, unless anyone is having second thoughts… Candice is having problems at home and tries to tell both Sarah and Maria about her mum’s creepy new boyfriend Gerry. But when Sarah’s too busy to talk and Maria’s not interested Candice is left feeling isolated. Sarah decides to quit school and start working at the café full-time in order to keep up with the rent on the flat. And Les celebrates his birthday in the Rovers much to the annoyance
of Mick who does his best to spoil Les’ day. |
| Episode 5571 - Sunday 31 August 2003 at 7:30pm Writer: Catherine Hayes Director: Charles Lauder Tracy prepares to fly out to the Caribbean telling Ken and Deirdre that she got the money from an old joint account she had when she was married. Meanwhile, as Roy battles with his conscience and worries about the future, Hayley decides to face her fears and approach Tracy for proof of her pregnancy. Ensuring Tracy keeps to her side of the deal, the Croppers decide to confront Tracy and are shocked to discover that she has gone on holiday with their money and according to Ken and Deirdre has the intention of spending every last penny. Will the Croppers ever see Tracy or their money again? Elsewhere, Sarah gets her first job by telling an already preoccupied Roy that her mum has given her permission to leave school and start full time work at the café. How will she break the news to Gail? Janice is feeling pressured by a jealous Mick to finalise her divorce after he witnesses Les telling Janice that he will never let her go. Meanwhile, as Emma looks to the future and their new life in Newcastle, Curly starts to have second thoughts. |
