Martin gets it from all quarters

It’s not a good day for Martin (Sean Wilson) as Danny (Bradley Walsh) tries to uncover the reason behind his sudden dislike for Warren (Danny Young). Thanks to Martin’s foul play, Warren has missed his debut for Weatherfield County and Danny is outraged by his jealous behavior. Martin’s situation isn’t helped by the fact that Katy (Lucy Jo Hudson) still isn’t speaking to him and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) adds to his misery when she highlights his failings as a parent.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) and Claire (Julia Haworth) have a dilemma on their hands as they acquire three best men for their forthcoming nuptials. With Fred (John Savident) assuming that the role will be his, and Martin (Sean Wilson) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall) also up for the top job, the couple face a difficult decision. Who will Claire and Ashley pick?

Meanwhile things get a little sticky when Les (Bruce Jones), under strict instructions from Cilla (Wendi Peters), tries to teach Chesney (Sam Aston) about the birds and the bees. It soon becomes clear that Les might need to learn a thing or two himself and is given a lesson in baby making – diagrams included!

And Sally (Sally Whittaker) is thrilled when she is asked to work on the cake stand at Oakhill School Fayre.

Karen is taken ill at the Underworld Christmas Party

The Underworld Christmas Party gets off to a slow start, as everybody feels bad about the way they’ve treated Angela (Kathryn Hunt). However things pick up when Jamie (Rupert Hill) convinces her to come to the party and the Christmas spirit is helped along with a drink or two. Even Mike (Johnny Briggs) gets in the mood and enjoys some festive banter with Janice (Vicky Entwistle). Meanwhile, despite not being able to drink or smoke, Karen (Suranne Jones) is enjoying herself until she is suddenly overcome with stomach pains. She rushes to the toilet to compose herself but fearing the worst, makes a speedy exit, noticed only by Sean (Anthony Cotton) who promises not to tell anybody that she’s gone. Is Karen about to lose the baby she’s longed for?

Back on the street, Cilla (Wendi Peters) is in defiant mood and remains adamant that ‘snotty cow’ Sally (Sally Whittaker) will not get the better of her. She tells Les (Bruce Jones) to send for an Oakhill School prospectus and is sure that Chesney’s (Sam Aston) cute face alone will get him a free place at the school. Sally is stunned that a work-shy pair of wasters could even dream of sending their child to Oakhill.

Gail (Helen Worth) visits Martin (Sean Wilson) in a bid to repair his relationship with Sarah (Tina O’Brien). Martin is put out as he feels that Sarah is only interested in his life insurance money. But Gail tells him that he’s being ridiculous; Sarah just feels pushed out by Katy (Lucy Jo Hudson) and needs to feel loved by her dad.

Candice (Nikki Sanderson) finally persuades Warren (Danny Young) that it will be a good idea for them to attend the Weatherfield County Christmas party – and Claire and Ashley’s best man dilemma looks like it might be resolved.

Karen loses her baby

Steve (Simon Gregson) and Karen’s ( Suranne Jones) nightmare continues as her stomach pains persist and she is rushed to hospital. Fearing the worst, Karen takes her frustrations out on Steve, who tries to remain calm and reassure her. When they arrive at the hospital Karen is taken for a scan, which confirms the couple’s worst fears, that she has lost the baby. Steve takes Karen in his arms as she breaks down.

Back on the street, Claire (Julia Haworth) and Ashley (Steven Arnold) have dubiously left their wedding preparations in the hands of their three best men, Fred (John Savident), Martin (Sean Wilson) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall). But the three men are comically struggling to delegate the tasks for the big day and agree to settle it with a game of darts!

Candice (Nikki Sanderson) prepares for her footballer’s wives debut at the Weatherfield County Christmas party. Looking a million dollars, she is determined to stay sober and make a good impression. However she is none too impressed when she finds out that Leanne (Jane Danson) is also going to the party – and has a trick or two up her sleeve.

Meanwhile battle is about to commence between Cilla ( Wendi Peters) and Sally (Sally Whittaker) as the Oakhill Christmas Fayre approaches. Sally is out to impress with her mince pies but with the Battersby Browns in attendance things surely won’t go to plan.

Karen is in denial after her miscarriage

Karen (Suranne Jones) is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her baby and convinces Steve (Simon Gregson) that they shouldn’t tell anybody. To keep up the pretence of normality, Karen insists on going to go to work despite Steve’s disapproval. But when she gets there it all proves too much and she makes her excuses to leave. Back home, Steve is finding it difficult not being able to confide in anybody, especially his mum. Karen, on the other hand, appears to be coping well until her emotions get the better of her and she hits the bottle.

Elsewhere Sally (Sally Whittaker) is in her element at the Oakhill School Fayre as she mingles with the other parents and teachers. All is going well until the Battersbys arrive, looking for all the world like the Clampets on a bad day. Immediately launching into a snobbish tirade, Sally is told to calm down by the headteacher and the Battersbys are welcomed into the fayre. Sally is stunned when she hears that the head is quite taken with Chesney (Sam Aston) who, he believes, is above average intelligence. She is further taken aback when she hears that if Chesney passes the school’s entrance exam, his fees will be waived!

It’s the morning after the night before for Candice (Nikki Sanderson) following the Weatherfield County Christmas party. Rather than being full of stories of glitz and glamour, she is in a somewhat more demure mood and can’t understand why she is feeling so ill. Things go from bad to worse when she finds out that she and Warren (Danny Young) are last night's talking point, for all the wrong reasons, and a full page picture of the pair in the Weatherfield Gazette is less than flattering. Leanne (Jane Danson) is on hand to rub salt into Candice’s wounds as she realises Leanne masterminded her downfall.

And Tracy (Kate Ford) tells the Barlows that she and Amy are going to spend Christmas with Peter.

Karen takes off with Amy

Karen (Suranne Jones) is furious that Liz has let slip news of her miscarriage and is livid when Tracy (Kate Ford) offers her genuine sympathy.

She firmly points the finger at Steve (Simon Gregson) as the source of her unhappiness and tells him how much she loathes Tracy and Amy. Still harbouring all the resentment about Steve’s infidelity, she tells him she has never forgiven him and that the baby was her only chance of happiness. Karen leaves the house in a complete rage, and sees Tracy loading the car for Peter’s. When Tracy heads into the house, Karen charges over and takes the car – not realizing that a sleeping Amy is in the back!

Ashley’s (Steven Arnold) three best men have arranged his stag night but their dinner at a fancy restaurant is ruined when Tyrone’s (Alan Halsall) stripper turns up and they’re all thrown out. Fred (John Savident) is fuming but Martin (Sean Wilson) has a contingency plan, a night club recommended by girlfriend Katy (Lucy Jo Hudson). Unfortunately, nobody told them that there was an upper age limit and Mike (Johnny Briggs) and Fred are refused entry!

Peace is restored in the Webster household as Sally (Sally Whittaker) apologises to Sophie (Brooke Vincent) for ‘murdering’ Ebony Rae. But Kevin (Michael Le Vell) tells Sophie that he knows what she is up to.

And Cilla (Wendi Peters) tells everybody that Chesney (Sam Aston) will be going to Oakhill.

Panic ensues as the pair try to find Karen until she calmly calls and tells Steve that she’s at the Red Rec. Their sense of relief is short lived as Tracy and Steve arrive to find the car in flames and Karen nowhere to be seen. Is Amy inside the burning car?

Ashley (Steven Arnold) and his stags have descended on the Rovers and the party is now in full swing. Meanwhile, Claire (Julia Haworth) and Yvonne (Yvonne O’Grady) are becoming reacquainted as Yvonne tells Claire that she has resigned from her job.
