Mike’s (Johnny Briggs) answer is not exactly what Sally was looking for and when he flippantly offers Rosie an audition on one his sewing machines, Sally’s snobbish response is overheard and leads to a public slanging match with another one of Weatherfield’s residents. It seems Sally is prepared to sacrifice both friends and family in her pursuit of stardom for her much maligned daughter. How long will it be before those around her reach breaking point?

STARS IN THEIR EYES CELEBRITY SPECIAL

* NEW ITV1 Network Saturday 24 April 9:15 PM to 10:15 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The programme that proves that it’s not just members of the public who have stars in their eyes returns with five more celebrities.

Hosted by Cat Deeley, five more well known acts are set to stun fans with their amazing transformations and join a roll call of some of the biggest names in television impersonating their idols and amazing viewers with their hidden vocal talents.

Coronation Street’s Nikki Sanderson is better known to viewers as teen beauty Candice Stowe. Tonight she’ll be transformed into another teen beauty – Britney Spears.

She says: “I thought being Britney would be a pretty cool thing to do. I am a big fan and thought it would be a good challenge. I just loved doing all the dance routines. I had fantastic fun dressing up like her and I had to wear brown contact lenses and had blonde hair! I had done Stars In Their Eyes before as LeAnn Rimes, so this time round wasn't nerve wracking at all really. I had a fab time and really enjoyed myself. But the first time I did it, it was probably on a par with my first day on Coronation Street. Both experiences are nerve racking and intimidating.”

“I was really busy filming with Coronation Street when I did Stars In Their Eyes this time round and had to keep filming scenes for Coronation Street in between practising for my performance as Britney. There was a funny moment on the Coronation Street set. I had just finished a scene and was about to dash off to do more Britney rehearsals when the sound engineers started playing Britney in the studio. Everybody else on set started laughing and clapping. It was very funny.”

Emmerdale’s Patrick Mower and Liam O’Brien swap the Dales for the stage as they team up as seventies group Dr. Hook.

Patrick says: “I am a big 70s fan. It was a great time for me. I was starring in my own series called Special Branch and Target. I was a big star so had a great time! When I put on the clothes I felt and looked like I did in the 70s. I still fit into clothes I wore back then and still have some of my original outfits – flares and all.”

Says Liam: “I missed the 70s as I was born in 1980. I have become a huge fan now though, since doing the show. The guy I did had quite a deliberate way of hitting certain notes. Dr Hook, the Bee Gees and other singers of that time had a particular way of pronouncing the word woman. It’s more like ‘womon’. It was good to have Patrick there for moral support. I was very nervous, but as soon as we got out there we both just really enjoyed it. With all the lighting, costume make-up etc., it was easy to feel like a star for the night, although I was terrified that my beard would fall off!”

This Morning reporter Alison Hammond is transformed to the high priestess of soul, Nina Simone. “I went into the audition and sang as Macy Gray but the director thought my voice was better suited to Nina Simone and as these guys are much more in tune with this sort of thing I followed their advice.”

“I was very nervous and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was even more nervous before I went on stage, I still can’t believe I’ve done it! I made sure I did lots of preparation for the show by watching videos of Nina Simone and listening to her songs over and over again. I was lucky in that my mum is a huge fan so I knew a lot about her.”

Actor Brian Blessed takes the stage as legendary maestro Pavarotti.

“I am a huge fan and love listening to opera. It’s the first time I have done this type of show and I found it much scarier than performing in a live play! I would love to meet Pavarotti but was mistaken for him once in Covent Garden by a tramp. I did feel a bit guilty after he thanked me for singing a couple of bars to him!”

And Mike Read swaps the jungle for the Peter Pan of pop, Cliff Richard.

He says: “I have portrayed Cliff in Cliff The Musical on tour and in the West End, although I was surprised, especially as Tony Blackburn did Cliff last year! I spoke to Cliff Richard but he was no help at all. He told me not to do it, suggested that I do someone else and that I was too tall to be him! I wasn't nervous, but was concerned about giving it my best shot. My lack of breath control always bugs me a bit.”

“My time on Stars In Their Eyes was shorter than being on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! The food we were given on Stars In Their Eyes was better (at least there was food) and I was allowed to take the guitar, which was outlawed in the jungle!”

STARS IN THEIR EYES SPECIAL is a Granada production.
