STARS IN THEIR EYES: SOAP STAR SPECIAL

ITV1 Network Saturday 1 May 9:15 PM to 10:15 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The programme that proves that it’s not just members of the public who have stars in their eyes returns with five more celebrity singers.

Hosted by Cat Deeley, five more famous faces are set to stun fans with their amazing transformations and hidden vocal talents by joining a roll call of some of the biggest names in television impersonating their idols.

First through those famous doors is Emmerdale stunner Lucy Pargeter who plays Chastity Dingle. Lucy emerges through the dry ice as Emma Bunton.

Says Lucy: “My friends and family are surprised that I’m going to be Emma Bunton as she’s the complete opposite vocally to me. I’m a real belter and I wanted to be Bonnie Tyler as she’s much more my voice. However, when I saw Bonnie’s clothes I thought no way, but immediately loved Emma’s outfit and thought this is going to be fantastic.

“I don’t go to the gym so didn’t realize how difficult the dancing would be until I tried it. It’s certainly a challenge, and though I’m really nervous I can’t wait.”

Next up is former EastEnders favourite Shaun Williamson and tonight he’ll be transformed into rock star Meatloaf.

He says:”When I knew I was appearing on Stars On Their Eyes, my first panic was who will I be most convincing as. I really sound like Cliff Richard but don’t physically look a bit like him and thought that would stretch the make-up department too much!

“I’m thrilled to be Meat Loaf as I’m a huge fan. I’ve seen him perform live many times and know how he moves around the stage.”

Apart from vocal similarities, Shaun admits he has something else in common with the larger-than-life rocker. “I don’t need any extra padding,” he jokes.

“I’m always nervous before I perform, but I use those nerves in a positive way and turn it around to give me energy instead of crippling me with nerves.

“I love singing and started out when my wife sold her car to buy a Karaoke machine so I could sing in bars around London. Now, I perform with a 12-piece band called The John Oliver Band and I’m really excited to be appearing in my first West End musical Saturday Night Fever from July.

“Though I sing with a group, I’m not taking anything for granted. All the contestants are great and the competition is high, but whatever happens it’s going to be a great experience.”

Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters takes the stage as singing sensation Kirsty MacColl.

Wendi says: “I’ve been having the best time playing Cilla in Coronation Street. It’s much more fun to be nasty than it is to be nice! The cast have given me advice about Stars. They say it’s a fabulous day and to just relax and enjoy it.

“I have sung in a few musicals years ago and I’ve always loved singing and entertaining even though I’m nervous.

“I’m a big fan of Kirsty MacColl and just love the wig and costume. I think I look a bit like Cilla.”

The Royal’s Michael Starke is also well known to viewers as Sinbad in Brookside. Tonight he’ll be transformed into Paul Carrack.

Says Michael: “When I was asked to be on Stars In Their Eyes I was a little bit surprised, as I thought there wasn’t anyone I looked like!

“I’m delighted to be Paul Carrack, as I’m a huge fan. He’s everything I aspire to be in a musician – though I hope he doesn’t think what’s Michael Starke doing me for!

“I love the song The Living Years and it means a lot to me personally. I think that everyone identifies with it.

“I’ve been in bands since I was a kid but didn’t realise how much work goes into the rehearsals of Stars In Their Eyes. I’m a huge fan of the show and thought it would be fun and great for my kids to see.

“I can’t wait to get out there and perform. I love performing before a live audience because you know immediately if you are doing a good job as they’ll certainly tell you!”

The last celebrity guest through the dry is The Bill’s Lisa Maxwell, who transforms into Hollywood legend Doris Day.

Says Lisa: “I adore and greatly admire Doris Day. She has a tremendous vocal quality. I’ve always wanted to appear on Stars In Their Eyes and I’ve just given up smoking so it seems the ideal time as hopefully my voice shouldn’t die on me.

“The character of Doris couldn’t be further from my role in The Bill. It’s so lovely to dress up, wear false eye lashes and look glamorous.

“My friends and family say I’m mad and keep asking me why I want to do this. I think it’ll be fun and they’ll eat their words!

“It’s been four years since I’ve sung so I’m a bit nervous but I wanted to play Doris Day on Stars In Their Eyes for so long. This really is the stuff you tell your grandchildren about.”

STARS IN THEIR EYES: CELEBRITY SPECIAL is a Granada Production for ITV1. The producer is Glen Middleham and the executive producers are Jeff Thacker and Heather Coogan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Les is forced to face the awful truth about Cilla
Fiz (Jenni McAlpine) is still fuming with her mother and can’t keep the truth about Cilla (Wendi Peters) and uncle Ronnie from Les (Bruce Jones) for a minute longer. Despite Chesney’s (Sam Aston) pleas for her to keep quiet, she is determined to let Les know and have the added bonus of seeing Cilla suffer. Cilla, of course, denies it when a devastated Les demands the truth – but Chesney has had enough of his mum’s lies and shocks everyone with his version of events.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is feeling the pressure from Claire’s (Julia Haworth) mum to prove how serious he is about her daughter, so he stuns Claire by asking her to move in with him. Will she accept?

Mike (Johnny Briggs) is desperate to try and patch up his friendship with Fred (John Savident) so when they bump into each other at the golf club he suggests a game. Fred agrees to what rapidly turns into a grudge match, until they meet up with Mike’s old mate Dennis Stokes (Duncan Preston). Dennis is accompanied by his beautiful Thai bride Lily, and by the end of the day an idea is formulating in Fred’s mind.

Elsewhere Candice (Nikki Sanderson) is let down again by two-timing Tim.

This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by John Stevenson , produced by Tony Wood, and directed by Tracey Rooney. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.

MONDAY 3 MAY 8:30 TO 9:00 PM ITV1

It looks like the end for Les and Cilla

Cilla (Wendi Peters) has been left with no option but to confess all to Les (Bruce Jones). In a desperate bid to keep him, she tries to convince him that Ronnie means nothing and it is Les she loves. Distraught Les is in no mood to listen to her pleas and throws her out on the street. Shell-shocked Chesney (Sam Aston) tries to follow his mum, but she stoops to an all time low when she blames him for everything that has happened.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is surprised when Mrs Casey (Yvonne O’Grady) pays him a visit, intent on vetting the house. She is still furious with Ashley, whom she sees as the reason for Claire (Julia Haworth) losing the job at the Stamfords. Both Ashley and Mrs Casey are surprised and a little disappointed when it becomes clear that Claire has been less then honest with both of them.

Fred (John Savident) is intrigued by Dennis (Duncan Preston) and Lily Stokes and invites them to the Rovers to find out more about how they met. He’s fascinated to discover that Dennis used the Internet and starts to wonder if it might work for him.

Tim (Daniel Pape) arrives back from his holiday full of excuses for not seeing Candice (Nikki Sanderson) earlier. She’s just happy to see him, but Maria (Samia Ghadie) is less than convinced about his claim that he had jet lag flying back from Switzerland.

This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Joe Turner, produced by Tony Wood, and directed by Kay Patrick. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.

MONDAY 3 MAY 9:00 TO 9:30 PM ITV1

Les mourns as Chesney feels deserted

Les (Bruce Jones) is devastated by Cilla’s (Wendi Peters) betrayal and makes it clear to Chesney (Sam Aston) that he isn’t welcome at his house. Fiz (Jenni McAlpine) feels responsible for her brother and his pet dog, but when Schmeichel starts to make his presence felt at the flat Chesney does a runner to the bus stop. He finds an unlikely ally in the shape of Rita (Barbara Knox) who takes pity on him and offers him a bed for the night.

Claire (Julia Haworth) is furious with her mum and confides in Maria (Samia Ghadie) that she can’t face living at home, but moving in with Ashley (Steven Arnold) seems such a big step. Maria comes up with the perfect solution. Now all Claire has to do is break the news to Ashley.

Fred (John Savident) is still finding it difficult to be civil to Mike (Johnny Briggs) and Penny (Pauline Fleming), and turns down their offer of a drink. He tells them he is fine on his own, whilst secretly mulling over the idea of finding a partner on the Internet.

This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Stephen Lowe, produced by Tony Wood, and directed by Kay Patrick. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.

WEDNESDAY 5 MAY 7:30 TO 8:00 PM ITV1

Fred considers getting Thai’d down

Dennis (Duncan Preston) gives Fred (John Savident) the Thai bride hard sell and convinces him that finding true love on the Internet is the only way forward. Fred is cautiously optimistic that this could be the solution to his romance problems, and starts to make plans to buy a computer. Ashley (Steven Arnold) is curious about what Fred is up to, but the butcher is for once playing things close to his chest.

The question of Chesney’s (Sam Aston) future dogs Fiz (Jenni McAlpine) and Les (Bruce Jones) as they try to work out what to do with the motherless and homeless youngster. Fiz knows that there is not enough room at the flat to keep him there full time and Les can’t bear to be reminded of two-timing Cilla (Wendi Peters). However, when Les discovers Chesney has decided to head off to London, he has a change of heart.

Plans for Maria’s (Samia Ghadie) birthday party are hotting up. Katy (Lucy Jo Hudson) is intrigued when she invites Karl and he confesses that he is in the midst of a torrid affair with a soon-to-be-married man. Is the secret about to come out?

This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Ken Blakeson, produced by Tony Wood, and directed by Kay Patrick. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.

FRIDAY 7 MAY 7:30 TO 8:00 PM ITV1

Hot gossip is rife at Maria’ birthday bash

With the party in full swing, Todd (Bruno Langley) is finding being in the same room as Karl (Chris Finch) and Sarah (Tina O’Brien) suffocating to say the least. Karl, on the other hand, is finding it quite exciting and can’t help but brag to Katy about his ‘secret lover’. But he is furious when Todd makes a show of togetherness with Sarah, and does his best to make Todd feel uncomfortable.

Elsewhere at the bash, things are also not going quite to plan – Jack (Bill Tarmey) has hijacked the Karaoke, Ashley (Steven Arnold) manages to upset Claire (Julia Haworth), and Audrey (Sue Nicholls) ruffles Tim’s (Daniel Pape) feathers with a few probing questions. But despite all the problems, a surprise present from Nick (Adam Rickitt) makes Maria’s (Samia Ghadie) 21st a day to remember.

At the Battersbys’, Chesney (Sam Aston) is settling in with Les (Bruce Jones). Fiz (Jenni McAlpine) has laid some ground rules and it looks as though things will work out. Meanwhile Les is pleased when Janice (Vicky Entwistle) pays him a visit to see how he is coping, and when they start to chat about old times Les of course reads much more into the conversation.

Over at Underworld, a stitch in time saves nine for Mike (Johnny Briggs) and Charlie (Bill Ward), as the builder meets Mike’s deadline to finish to work.

STARS IN THEIR EYES CELEBRITY SPECIAL

ITV1 Network Saturday 8 May 9:15 PM to 10:15 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s the turn of the celebs to have stars in their eyes, with a new line up of five superstars swapping the champagne for vocal coaching and learning melodies instead of lines on an all new STARS IN THEIR EYES CELEBRITY SPECIAL on ITV1.

Cat Deeley hosts another incredible line up and making her entrance through the doors tonight is the minx from the dales, Amy Nuttall who plays Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale. Swapping farm life for Broadway, Amy emerges through the dry ice as the Phantom of the Opera star and former wife of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Brightman, in an occasion of art imitating life. Amy explains, ”Before I landed the role of Chloe in Emmerdale I was the understudy for Christine Dubois in Phantom of the Opera in London for three years. I did perform on stage a number of times but this is just amazing.”

EastEnders star Lucy Benjamin is also strutting her stuff on stage tonight as ultra cool rock chic Gwen Stefani from the U.S band No Doubt. Lucy, who plays troubled Lisa Shaw on screen, had a few doubts about singing live in front of an audience but tapped into her acting skills to overcome her nerves. Lucy comments: “The producers had approached me after hearing my voice and thought I sounded very much like Gwen. Initially, I didn’t want to do the show but my mum and brother talked me into it and I’m glad they did. I would have done someone like Kylie but with Gwen I really love her attitude and I’ve used that to help me perform.”

Swapping prison life to become suave 80s singer Robert Palmer is just one of the transformations Bad Girl’s star James Gaddas has been through of late – James has recently announced that he will be running for Parliament in the next general election! James plays master manipulator and governor of Larkhall Prison, Neil Grayling, but tonight he’ll be hoping that the audience inmates will vote for him as he sings live as the ultimate King of 80s cool. Commenting on his new career and his look, James says, “After having my daughter I really wanted to make a difference. I love acting but she has made me want to try and make a difference for her future life, so I’m planning on running for parliament at the next election for the Conservative party. The funny thing about being Robert Palmer is that I actually looked like this back in the 80s!”

Coronation Street favourite Beverley Callard who plays mum from hell Liz McDonald swaps Weatherfield for Hollywood as she dons leathers and leotard to become diva songstress Cher. Liz, who has recently been back on the Street to meet new granddaughter Amy, relished the challenge of transforming herself into one of the world’s most famous female singers better known for her barely there costumes, but admitted that nerves very nearly made her turn back time. Liz comments: “I’ve taken on many challenges in my career but this has to have been the most nerve wracking ever. When I was having my make up done I very nearly lost my nerve, but the team have been brilliant and have really helped me through.”

One of Britain’s former top athletes and current TV presenter Roger Black completes the line up of famous faces singing live. Roger, who will be strumming guitar as the acoustic song writer James Taylor, has actually performed as James before but it was only when former host of Stars, Matthew Kelly, who works with Roger on City Hospital, found out, that the producers of Stars approached him. Roger says: “I’ve worked with Matthew for some time and when he discovered that I could ‘do’ James he was immediately on the phone to the producers. I have to admit I’m not feeling nervous as I’m so comfortable doing James, although that could change once I get on stage!”

Katy however believes there may be something going on between the pair. Her suspicions are confirmed later when she witnesses a playful moment shared between the two hospital colleagues. Todd cautiously lets Karl into the flat and is stunned when Karl tells him it’s all over between them. Todd protests, informing Karl that he needs him for emotional support and does not know how he would cope with his situation if Karl dumped him now. Will a desperate Todd be able to persuade a reluctant Karl to continue their illicit liaisons? How long will it be before Sarah eventually discovers the truth behind Todd’s duplicity?

Meanwhile Fred is in ebullient mood over his hopes of finding romance on the internet. Is Fred finally going to find romance or has his friend Dennis got ulterior motives?

Anxious moments for Todd as Sarah heads towards Beth’s door, at the last moment Todd creates a distraction. Luckily for Todd, Sarah complains of feeling unwell and goes to her room to lie down, a relieved Todd ushers Karl from the flat. Shaken by the close call, Todd’s concerns are further heightened when Karl informs him that Katy is aware of the nature of their relationship. Is it only a matter of time before the news reaches Sarah?

Meanwhile, mischievous machinist Fizz once again engineers the situation so that Les and Janice can spend time alone together. She invites Cheesy and Kirk to spend the night at the salon flat, leaving Les’s house empty in case he invites Janice back for a nightcap. Fizz’s plans seem to be working when, after sharing a drink together in the Rovers, the divorced couple decide to head off for a meal. Is Cupid’s arrow aimed at Les and Janice for the second time?

Fred’s new fitness regime causes concern for Ashley and Claire. The bulging butcher takes up exercise in a bid to get fit in case his quest for love is successful. Ashley, who is still unaware of his father’s plans for romance, expresses his concerns to an equally concerned Claire. Ashley is worried Fred has had a health scare but is keeping it to himself. Sporting a new tracksuit and eating salads, Fred’s antics are sure to put the Weatherfield rumourmill into overdrive.

Elsewhere, Steve discusses his plans for No:11. Will his new idea enable Eileen and Jason to continue living on Coronation Street?

Les is walking on air and revelling in the afterglow but Janice is already regretting it and would rather keep it quiet. But with Fiz (Jenni McAlpine) and Kirk (Andrew Whyment) in on the secret, it surely won’t be long before Janice and Les’s reconciliation is the talk of the street.

Todd (Bruno Langley) is in even more turmoil as the wedding plans step up a gear. Fred is shocked at the imminent arrival of Orchid
Fred (John Savident) is excited as Dennis (Duncan Preston) reveals that he has pictures of potential brides for him to look at. Disappointed with the first couple Fred is delighted with a photograph of a beautiful young girl who would like to meet him. Dennis tells an enamoured Fred that it is customary for the potential groom to pay the airfare for the girl to fly, over and the gullible butcher is all too eager to hand over the £1000 required. But he is surprised when Dennis reveals that she will arrive tomorrow!

Todd (Bruno Langley) is battling with his emotions as he struggles to come to terms with losing Karl (Chris Finch). As Sarah (Tina O'Brien) asks him to feel the baby kicking inside her, the enormity of everything that is happening to him hits home and Sarah is surprised when he starts to cry. Bev (Suzie Blake) is jealous when she overhears Charlie (Bill Ward) and Shelley (Sally Lindsay) planning a date, so when the errant builder calls later to leave a message saying he can't make it as he's got to work late, Bev conveniently forgets to give Shelley the message - leaving her to believe she has been stood up.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is growing more concerned about Fred's (John Savident) erratic behaviour as he alternates between dieting and tucking into a full English breakfast. Convinced that his dad is seriously ill, Ashley confides in Claire (Julia Haworth) who admits that Fred is behaving a little oddly. Neither could guess the real reason for his new outlook on life however and are non-the wiser as Fred prepares to head for the airport to collect Orchid (Casey Lee Jolleys). Waiting at arrivals with a bunch of flowers he can't believe the vision of beauty before his eyes and is oblivious to the fact that he is being fleeced by both Dennis and Orchid.

Audrey (Sue Nicholls) has managed to establish that her and Maria's (Samia Ghadie) fears about Tim (Daniel Pape) were founded when she discovers from an acquaintance that he has a girl in every salon across town. The girls decide to wait for the right moment to tell Maria - unaware that Tim has arrived at the flat and is at that very moment sweet-talking Candice (Nikki Sanderson) into bed.

Fred is smitten with Orchid but Ashley's not.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is stunned when Fred (John Savident) arrives home with the beautiful but quiet Orchid (Casey Lee Jolleys) in tow. He can hardly believe his ears as Fred explains how they met, unable to comprehend the depths his dad has sunk to try and find happiness. Fred reassures him that he plans to take things slowly but Ashley knows Fred of old and can't help but worry about what he has got himself into this time. At the Rovers, however, Fred is thrilled with the reception his potential bride gets from his male friends and regulars - all except Mike (Johnny Briggs) who, like Ashley, is less than convinced. Fred is keen for Orchid to stay at the Rovers but she tells him it wouldn't be proper and insists she stays with a distant relative nearby!

Shelley (Sally Lindsay) is disappointed when she learns from Jason (Ryan Thomas) that Charlie (Bill Ward) is working and had always planned to be. It looks as though Bev (Suzie Blake) might have got away with it too until Betty (Betty Driver) lets slip that she heard Bev take the call!

Sally (Sally Whittaker) has not quite got over the disappointment of Rosie (Helen Flanagan) giving up her dreams of a stage career, so it is with a heavy heart that she attends parents' evening. She's stunned however to discover that Rosie is something of a maths genius and long suffering Kevin (Michael Le Vell) is pained to realise Sally's mind is already racing ahead to a future full of mathematical success for her older daughter!

Elsewhere Maria (Samia Ghadie) is intrigued when she finds a wedding ring in Tim's (Daniel Pape) pocket.

WEDNESDAY 19 MAY 7.30 PM TO 8.00 PM ITV1

Candice is forced to accept the awful truth about Tim.

Candice (Nikki Sanderson) has refused point blank to listen to anyone's criticisms of new boyfriend Tim (Daniel Pape) and today is no different as she pours scorn on Maria (Samia Ghadie) and Audrey's (Sue Nicholls) claims that he might not be everything he says. She is forced to change her mind however when Tim's wife turns up at the salon demanding to know who slept with her hubby.

Fred (John Savident) can't believe his luck as Orchid (Casey Lee Jolleys) continues to be everything he had hoped for - attentive, beautiful and above all interested in him. He's not too pleased when she says that she has agreed to help her cousin at the house but he accepts that she wants to take things slowly. He's stunned therefore when she tearfully announces that she has to return home as she has had word from Thailand that heR father is seriously ill.

Shelley (Sally Lindsay) is still reeling from the news that her mother tried to scupper her relationship with Charlie (Bill Ward) and realises that it is time she confronted Bev (Suzie Blake). Charlie meanwhile is determined to win her round and tells her he has booked the best table in town for dinner and has booked a car to take her there if she is interested. Shelley is impressed - has Bev's plan backfired, finally driving Shelley right into Charlie's arms?

Dennis however thinks he may have a solution and urges Fred to give Orchid (Casey Lee Jolleys) the money to send home for her dad's treatment so that she can stay in this country with him. At first Orchid refuses such a kind gesture but Fred insists and she gratefully kisses Fred leaving him in no doubt he has done the right thing.
