Shelley wants to do something special, but Charlie doesn’t seem too interested in the idea. Violet (Jenny Platt) tells Shelly to surprise him, but it appears Charlie wants to celebrate in a different way. Meanwhile, Cilla (Wendi Peters) is boasting about her new ‘spa’. It would appear that she has a saucy night planned for Les (Bruce Jones) in the bathroom, but Janice (Vicky Entwistle) is around to make sure that they don’t have too much fun. After Steve (Simon Gregson) has spent a bitter night’s sleep inside the mini-cab office, Tracy (Kate Ford) visits and begins to apologise for her actions the previous day. He shouts at her to leave him alone and berates her for telling Karen (Suranne Jones) about their tryst in the hotel room. Tracy begs him to see that she is the one for him but he refuses to listen and tells her to sling her hook. Meanwhile a deflated Karen arrives at Underworld. Janice is convinced Karen and Steve will get back together but Karen spits that her husband has humiliated her - not just in Weatherfield but in front of millions of people watching the quiz. Later on, a desperate Tracy visits Karen and begs her to let them be together. Steve pulls up in his taxi and pleads with his wife to take him back as it is her he loves. But will Karen believe him and take him back? Shelley (Sally Lindsay) buys Charlie (Bill Ward) a new watch for his birthday but is shocked when he walks into the Rovers with a short haircut. Charlie overreacts to Shelley's surprised expression but she is determined not to let it spoil their evening. However it looks like Shelley isn’t going to get the special night she had planned with her man as they end up in the Weatherfield Arms with Charlie Jason and some boozy mates. Violet (Jenny Platt) senses that Shelley isn’t very impressed with Charlie because she’d made plans for the two of them at Delphines. Charlie guesses this too and is torn between what to do with the rest of the evening. Meanwhile over at the Barlows', Liz (Beverley Callard) is making her presence very much felt. Deirdre is (Anne Kirkbride) obviously uncomfortable with their current living situation and puts on a stern face when Liz tells her that she feels in the way. This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Catherine Hays, produced by Tony Wood and directed by John Anderson. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. Weatherfield favourites Steve and Karen are reconciled but the situation is still very tense between them. She demands they go to bed immediately to try for a baby but after a long day in bed Steve (Simon Gregson) admits he feels used by his wife. They try and sort things through but Karen's bottom-line is that the only way they will be free from Tracy is if they leave Weatherfield for good. After a day of ‘reproducing’, Karen settles down to a night in front of the television and watches the latest ‘Top Of The Tree’ installment. However while watching the quiz, Karen twigs that she won the Barlows the £16,000 car and spoils for another fight to get the car back. Charlie (Bill Ward) tells Shelley (Sally Lindsay) she should go home and have a nice hot bath and, reluctantly, she does. When she is back at the Rovers she is upset at Charlie's dismissive attitude and has no choice but to cancel her table at Delphines. But Charlie rushes back and tells Shelley that he is a moron for cutting short their night out to be with the lads. He asks her to re-book the table and the evening ends on a happy note. Meanwhile Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) and Kirk (Andrew Whyment) are preparing for their bath, but as Kirk turns the tap, no water comes out. Danny (Bradley Walsh) visits and tells them the whole street's water supply is off and that the Water Board believes that it has something to do with the Battersby home. But when Kirk investigates the stopcock he discovers it has deliberately been turned off. This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Mark Wadlow, produced by Tony Wood and directed by John Anderson. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. Cilla (Wendi Peters) brags to Sunita (Shobna Gulati) that she is planning a sexy Hawaiian evening with Les (Bruce Jones) in their bathtub. Norris (Malcolm Hebden) overhears this and tells her that she should make the most of it while she can because they will be saying ‘aloha’ to the council after he calls and complains yet again. Cilla is defiant though and the wayward pair settle down to a saucy night in the deafening whirlpool. But as they tuck in to their ham and pineapple pizzas, Schmeichel smells the food and bounds upstairs to jump into the bath. This causes an almighty crash and the bath falls through the ceiling! Karen (Suranne Jones) is still furious about the car and marches around to No.1 to claim her prize. Fraught negotiations begin, and Ken (William Roache) tries to play the mediator. Ken thinks the best compromise would be to share the car between the seven members of the team, seven days a week. Karen won’t agree but Steve (Simon Gregson) is quick to shake Ken’s hand to one day a week each. Karen decides to go for a drive, but when she finds out Steve filled the car with petrol she refuses to give the car back to the Barlows until the tank is empty. Stubborn Karen then proceeds to drive round Weatherfield in circles until all the fuel is gone. Also, Vera (Liz Dawn) is very excited at the prospect of royalty visiting her home and tells anyone who will listen that she wants to do her house up and buy a new outfit for the occasion. Frankie (Debra Stephenson) offers to take her shopping, and Vera is delighted. This episode of CORONATION STREET is written by Chris Fewtrell, produced by Tony Wood and directed by John Anderson. The executive producer is Carolyn Reynolds. It is a Granada Television production for ITV1.
Frankie (Debra Stephenson) offers to watch Warren (Danny Young) play football and apologises to Vera (Liz Dawn) for letting her down over their day shopping. Instead she offers to loan Vera some of her best accessories and this cheers Vera up. She embarks on her retail therapy convinced that the royal visit will be imminent. Back at the Duckworths', Jack (Bill Tarmey) and Ron (Gordon Langford-Rowe) are in good spirits, convinced that their ruse has worked. But their smugness turns sour when Jack gets a call from the hospital informing him that Vera has been mugged. A worried Jack arrives at the hospital where he sees his frightened and bruised wife. Over at the Battersbys', Cilla (Wendi Peters) and Les (Bruce Jones) try and have breakfast amid the devastation. Cilla is livid and blames Chesney (Sam Aston) and his 'flamin' mutt' for the bath falling through the ceiling. Later a council investigator arrives and attempts to establish just what has happened. But Cilla (Wendi Peters), Les (Bruce Jones) and Charlie (Bill Ward) hide the bath under a tarpaulin and convince him that the house has obvious structural weaknesses. And the Barlows are in for a shock when they embark on a day out. Ken (William Roache) spots that a tyre is flat on their prize car, and on closer inspection sees all four are completely flat. Karen (Suranne Jones) then walks past them on the other side of the road with a large smile on her face. The Barlows have no choice but to get the bus into town but when they return from their trip they find the car on bricks!
