CORONATION STREET ITV1 Network Sunday 5 September 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM Karen turns over a dramatic new leaf Ciaran (Keith Duffy) invites some of the residents to sample his cooking, in the hope that they will put their hands in their pockets and invest in his restaurant. Everyone is full of praise at his culinary skills and Tracy (Kate Ford) plays the happy hostess. But when they get up to leave Tracy takes it upon herself to ask their guests to help them raise the £20k. Will anyone help Ciaran in his hour of need? Elsewhere, Dev’s (Jimmi Harkishin) flat has been redecorated, and he wastes no time in asking his bride- to-be Sunita (Shobna Gulati) to move in with him. As Penny seeks Ciaran, Tracy seeks a way out. Convinced that she will want to bail out of the business, Ciaran (Keith Duffy) ignores Penny’s phone calls, and despairs that his dream of opening the restaurant will soon be over. He berates Tracy (Kate Ford) for ‘begging’ the guests to back his venture, but soon forgets his upset when she leads him into the bedroom. Mike (Johnny Briggs) is getting more and more concerned about Penny’s (Pauline Fleming) investment and they both search Weatherfield for the elusive chef, but are unable to track him down. Meanwhile Ciaran is at Nexus despairing over his financial situation, but toxic Tracy has got a cunning plan. She suggests that he should sell the restaurant and do a runner with Penny’s money! With Ciaran slowly falling for Tracy’s charms, will he be persuaded? At Underworld, Danny (Bradley Walsh) can’t work out Karen’s (Suranne Jones) odd behavior as she insists on working through her cigarette breaks and minding her “ps and qs”. It’s also fellow stitcher Kelly’s (Tupele Dorgu) last day before she goes abroad to get married, so the girls give her a send off in the Rovers. However, a converted Karen is sticking to the straight and narrow, and leaves the shindig for an early night. Sunita’s (Shobna Gulati) plan to contact her family ends in despair. Excited about her forthcoming nuptials, she plucks up the courage to ring her mother but is devastated when she hangs up as soon as she hears her voice. Also, Sean (Antony Cotton) tells Eileen (Sue Cleaver) that he has been sacked from the department store for stealing face cream. Its no fun and games for Steve as Karen makes drastic sacrifices. Steve (Simon Gregson) is nearing the end of his tether as Karen (Suranne Jones) seems to be determined to rid herself of all her worldly goods, disgusted at being so selfish and materialistic. She gives away all her beloved clothes to the factory girls who relish the chance to get their hands on Karen’s wardrobe. Later she brings in a huge pile of knickers stolen during her time at the factory. She tells Danny (Bradley Walsh) that it’s an unofficial perk of the job and that all the girls take underwear from time to time. The girls are outraged at her “betrayal”. However Karen’s new found holiness takes on a new dimension when she is found by Steve enjoying a game of scrabble with Roy (Dave Neilson) and Hayley (Julie Hesmonhalgh). He is exasperated and goes to the Rovers to see his mother who is looking after baby Amy (Rebecca Pike). He cannot help but be drawn to his daughter, and when Tracy (Kate Ford) comes to pick up Amy, a heartwarming sight greets her. Tracy is disgusted at Ciaran (Keith Duffy) for not being interested in taking the easy way out. But he warns her that if she can’t support him in his decision to do things the right way, then he doesn’t want her in his life. Penny (Pauline Fleming) is growing angry with Ciaran and demands to know the situation. Will Ciaran ask her for more money? Leanne (Jane Danson) backs out on a date with Jamie (Rupert Hill) to start work at the corner shop to give Sunita (Shobna Gulati) the night off. They have a row and he dumps her. Sunita’s brother shatters her idea of a family reunion. With the wedding plans well under way, Sunita (Shobna Gulati) is still upset that her family will not be there to celebrate her big day. Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) tries to convince her that she can manage without her relatives as his family will love her as much as he does. However, she is still unhappy so when her brother Jayesh (Ace Bhatti) turns up unexpectedly, she is overjoyed – but how will she feel when she hears what he has to say? It seems that Ciaran’s (Keith Duffy) prayers are answered when Penny (Pauline Fleming) reveals that she has decided to go the extra mile and invest the further £20k he needs to get the business up and running. As he and Tracy (Kate Ford) celebrate the good news, Ciaran is overcome with emotion and blurts out that he loves her – how will Tracy react to this unexpected declaration of feelings? As Sonia (Tina Gambe) struts round the factory in Karen’s (Suranne Jones) red boots and Janice (Vicky Entwistle) tries to entice her into having a fag, the new and improved Mrs McDonald doesn’t waver – in fact she seems even more determined to stick to the straight and narrow. Steve (Simon Gregson) thinks desperate measures are called for and drags her to a shopping centre, offering a shopping spree to end all shopping sprees. Will Karen give in to temptation? Elsewhere Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) starts work in the factory and wins round the girls and Danny with his stitching skills and gift of the gab. Steve’s forced to play dad as Karen’s zealotry grows. Steve (Simon Gregson) is despairing at Karen’s (Suranne Jones) increasing zealotry. Karen tells him that he should stop fighting it and work at being a better person, but Steve preferred the old Karen and is beginning to wonder how he fits into the new scheme of things. Sick and tired of trying to understand his wife, he takes solace in the Rovers where he finds Liz (Bev Callard) and Tracy (Kate Ford) slagging off Karen; he’s quick to defend her but Tracy tells him some home truths about his failings as a father. Later Liz decides Steve needs some time bonding with his daughter and dumps Amy (Rebecca Pike) on him – how will he cope? Sunita (Shobna Gulati) is devastated that her parents are refusing to acknowledge her, so is pleased when Jayesh (Ace Bhati) calls to arrange a meeting with her father. Excitedly she waits at the meeting point but as the time ticks away she realises that he isn’t going to show! Back on the street, Leanne (Jane Danson) is thrilled to have Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) all to herself but he’s completely unaware that she has designs on him!
