Meanwhile Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) isn’t quite so pleased about Charlie’s insurance scam and goes to the builders’ yard to confront him. Charlie is backed into a corner and pathetically reminds Dev that he risked his own life to save Dev and Sunita (Shobna Gulati). Dev isn’t impressed that Charlie thinks he’s got a hold over him and sacks him. Charlie is furious and blames innocent Shelley who is all dressed up and ready to go out. In his anger Charlie rips out Shelley’s earrings and throws them across the room. Les (Bruce Jones) ends up in the doghouse as a mystery man arrives at his door telling him to stay away from his wife. Les is bewildered as to who the woman could be but makes the most of his new ‘stud’-like status by bragging in the cab office. Cilla (Wendi Peters) is less than impressed when she hears what he’s been up to and Les is relegated to the sofa until further notice! Maria (Samia Ghadie) is invited to go on holiday with Jack (William Tarmey), Vera (Liz Dawn) and Tyrone (Alan Halsall), a prospect she clearly doesn’t relish. But even though she declines, Tyrone doesn’t get the hint that she isn’t happy in their relationship.
Shelley (Sally Lindsay) is still shaken and upset following her row with Charlie (Bill Ward) but tries to put on a brave face in front of Violet (Jenny Platt). Matters are made worse when she discovers from Sunita (Shobna Gulati) that Charlie has already apologised to Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) before coming to see her. When Charlie appears in the Rovers, Shelley tells him that she too deserves an apology but he manages to manipulate her into thinking that she was to blame for the row. Maria (Samia Ghadie) is knocked off her feet when Warren’s footballing teammate Stuart (Junior Laniyan) comes in for a hair cut and asks her out on a date, which she later accepts. Meanwhile, Tyrone (Alan Halsall) breaks the news to Jack (William Tarmey) and Vera (Liz Dawn) that he and Maria won’t be going to Blackpool with them. He tries to cover for Maria but Vera isn’t convinced and thinks that she is up to her old tricks. Is Vera onto Maria? Dev and Sunita mark today as the beginning of their future as the corner shop re-opens. Sunita is delighted as Dev asks her to represent them at tonight’s Weatherfield Chamber of Trade meeting. Vera is devastated for Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and tells Jack (William Tarmey), who is left to break the news to a gutted Tyrone. Meanwhile, Maria is oblivious to the fact that her dates with Stuart are becoming street gossip. Sunita (Shobna Gulati) is thrilled with the results of standing in for Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) at the Weatherfield Traders’ Association meeting. The Presidency of the association is up for grabs and she has been nominated. She returns home to tell Dev who is bemused by the fact that his wife has been considered for the position. Jamie (Rupert Hill) attempts to make some extra cash by borrowing the Underworld van to do some moonlighting. However, his plans suffer a set back as he puts a dent in the van. But later that night he leaves the Rovers to see Maria all dressed up and getting into a cab. Tyrone is heartbroken and can only watch as the taxi drives off. Danny (Bradley Walsh) attempts to create a cease-fire between feuding Frankie (Debra Stephenson) and Leanne (Jane Danson) by inviting his new extended family round for lunch. Things go from bad to worse and ends up with the pair having a food fight around the table. Danny is forced to use his charm and charisma on Leanne to convince her that she and Frankie are like ‘two peas in a pod’. Reluctantly Leanne comes round to his way of thinking and apologises to Frankie. To Maria’s surprise Tyrone doesn’t dump her, instead he has a proposal – but will she accept?
Away from the street, Sally’s (Sally Whittaker) affair comes close to being rumbled as she invites Gail (Helen Worth) to come and see her at work.
