Just as her parents are preparing to go out for a romantic meal Katy turns up with Martin (Sean Wilson), armed with expensive gifts that they hope will soften the blow. Soon the conversation turns to universities and in a childish strop Katy blurts out that she won’t be going to university because she is pregnant. Tommy appears livid but who will bear the brunt of his frustrations? Shelley (Sally Lindsay) is still trying to impress Charlie (Bill Ward) by losing weight but reluctantly agrees to help Sunita (Shobna Gulati) out with some taste testing. Martin, meanwhile, is not happy as he feels forced into backing Katy up despite his own true feelings. Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Sunita are lightheartedly preparing to go head-to-head for the presidency of the Weatherfield Trade Association. Both are sure that they will win and jokingly offer each other the position of first lady by way of consolation. Let battle commence!
